Government Accreditation

Exciting news!!!!

I received my official accreditation from the Queensland government under the new Guide, Hearing and Assistance Dog Act 2009. They sent me special photo ID card and an official tag and patch. The tag hangs off my leash but there is no room on my vests for the patch. Now we are covered by this act we no longer have to carry mum’s proof of disability and when we are in Queensland there are very big penalties if we are denied access to a public place.  Under the Act, a person with a disability who relies on a certified guide, hearing or assistance dog must have the same access rights as other members of the public. Further, they must not be segregated from other patrons or separated from their dog. Individuals in control of a public place or public transport vehicle can be fined up to $10,000. Privately owned businesses including restaurants, hotels, shops, taxis, theatres and sports facilities can be fined up to $50,000.

This is what my patch and tag look like:
